He was predeceased by: his parents, John Rankin and Margaret Cunningham (Duncan). He is survived by: his wife Jean Rankin (Ramage); his children, Elspeth Rankin, Fiona Baker (James) and Alasdair Rankin (Kelly); his grandchildren, David, Anna, Mitchell (Chloe) and Sydney (Dan); and his sister Anna Pritchard.
