He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Prier and Dorothy Prier; his former wife Elaine (Kerr); his wife Margaret (Bayne Jackson); and his siblings, James Allan, Elaine Decker and Rosemary Gordon.

He is survived by: his children, Anne Layther (Greg) and Robert Prier; and his grandchildren, Richard and Imogen Layther.
