It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Vernon Frederick Downie (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia), who passed away on April 30, 2021, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Evelyn Downey and Eric Armstrong; and his siblings, Graham, Theodore, Donald, George, Robert, Edward and Phyllis Braithwaite.

He is survived by: his wife Birley (Brooks); his children, Frederick of Toronto, Eric of Toronto, Dwight of Toronto, Evelyn of Dartmouth, Marina of Dartmouth, Wanda of Dartmouth, Chantel of Dartmouth and Tiffany; his siblings, David Downey and Karen Downey; his sister-in-law Ardith Downey; and his godchildren, Angela, Nadine and Jontelle. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the funeral will be by invitation only.
