Len Melo wrote a sympathy message

“My heartfelt condolences to the Mattie family. Wayne and I worked together on the Maritime Helicopter Project and he was very proud working on that project. I was based in Ottawa and would travel to Halifax frequently to support the setup of the Maritime Helicopter Training Devices, Wayne would always be availabe to greet me and help out. He was all in, days, nights, weekends, whatever it took to get the devices ready for training. He was a good man and will be missed. Len Melo”
