He was predeceased by: his parents, Alf Nielsen and Eleanor Nielsen (Penney); and his siblings, Bernard, Inga McInnis and Kay Drysdale.

He is survived by: his wife Patricia Nielsen (Martin); his children, Erin Cotie (Vernon), Ian Nielsen (Kerry) and Erik Nielsen (Monica); his grandchildren, Madalyn, Ryan, Liam Nielsen, Owen and Eli Cotie; and his siblings, Bette McWilliams of Lake Country, BC, Earl Nielsen, Brockville, Ont, Harry Nielsen, Alf Nielsen and John Nielsen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Philae Shriners.
