William Scott Marcus Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of William "Bill" Scott Marcus on May 23, 2026, at Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on September 30, 1947, Bill grew up in a Navy family, moving from coast to coast before settling in Dartmouth in the 1960s. It was during his high school years at Prince Andrew High that Bill was lucky enough to meet the love of his life, Beverly Ann Bourret. Together, they shared an amazing 57 years of marriage! They established roots in Colby Village, where they raised their two daughters, Jana and Jill, and eventually traveled the world together, sharing countless laughs and memorable times with family and friends.
Bill spent his entire career working alongside his father and brothers, running Dartmouth Wholesalers and RV Wheel Estate. He developed many friendships through his work over the years and was well known for his after-hours hospitality, always supported by his buddy, "Captain.".
For 44 years, Bill and Beverly also owned and operated Sunnyvale Campground, creating a community of laughter and fun times with campers who quickly became friends. Bill was known for his sarcastic comments, typically at Beverly's expense; his love of 50s and 60s music and his trademark whistle. After closing the business, the family built cottages at the campground overlooking the lake. Bill loved spending hours on the front deck, taking in the beautiful views and sunsets—while keeping a watchful eye on the local geese, the undisputed bane of his existence. His summers were best spent on his lawn tractor, at the golf course, having happy hour with his family or exploring the back roads of Nova Scotia in his convertible Camaro. For nearly fifteen years, Bill and Beverly were also fortunate enough to escape the winters as snowbirds in Florida and Texas, making wonderful friends and memories along the way.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; his devoted daughter, Jana Marcus-Randall (Gary); and his cherished grandchildren, Jillian Oldreive (Seth) and Marcus Oldreive (Emily). He was predeceased by his daughter, Jill Marcus-Mathie; his brothers, Robyn and Jimmy Marcus; and his parents, William and Haroldine Marcus.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home in Dartmouth, where a visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A private family interment will take place on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
