He was predeceased by: his parents, Shirley VanTassel and Stevie VanTassel; his brother Dougie VanTassel; and his nephew Joey VanTassel. He is survived by: his wife Faye VanTassel; his sons, Kelly VanTassel (Kelly-Sue Pyne) and Chris VanTassel (Jolene); his brother Brian VanTassel (Rose); and his grandsons, Aaron and Alex VanTassel. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
