He was predeceased by: his father Donald Wheeler. He is survived by: his children, Kevin (Lisa), Katelyn and Jessica Brooks; his grandson Kayson; his mother May; his siblings, Martha (Mike), Donnie (Theresa), Joan, Lynn and Scott (Christine); and his nieces and nephews, Michael, Jennifer, Sandie, Cherrie, Jamie, Jessica, Jody, Jason, Justin, Krista and Megan.

Memorial donations may be made in Richard Wheeler's name to Mental Health and Addiction Programs of Nova Scotia.
