He was predeceased by: his wife Jean; and his parents, Gerald Courtney and Victoria Courtney. He is survived by: his children, Ray (Holly), Glenn (Kim) and Elaine Mailman (Blaine); his grandchildren, Candice, Britaney, Chelsea, Mikayla, Courtney, Stephan, Caleb Devan and Quintan; his great grandchildren, Anthony, Giavanna, Leonardo, Emmett, Easton, Huntley, Marnar and Esme; his sister Geraldine Contant; and his siblings-in-law, Fred Foster and Mary Skinner. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

As a way of honouring his life and the causes close to his heart, donations in his memory may be made to the Glace Bay Salvation Army, the Glace Bay Hospital Foundation – Renal Dialysis, or the Glace Bay Minor Hockey Association.
