She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert Percy and Christena (Wells Merriam); her husband Robert Francis Layton; her siblings, Robert Wells Boyd and Grayce Kathleen Merriam Boyd; and her in-laws, Raleigh Hull and Flora Layton (Stanford Flemming).
She is survived by: her son Jeffrey Layton (Sarah) of Concord, MA; her grandchildren, Bennett and Calder Layton; her sister-in-law Rose Boyd (Guimond); and her nephews, Stephen (Sheila), Andrew, Peter (Boyd), Marc (Elaine), Neil (Leeann) and Ian (Pellerin).
In 2023, Meredith's decades of service were recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, presented to Nova Scotians in honour of their outstanding contributions to their communities and province.
