He was loved and cherished by many people including: his father Lorne Dempsey; his wife Joan Elizabeth (Sutherland); his children, Michael (Anne Marie), Kieran Pinson (Ron), Nancy Feetham (Robin), Susan, Madelaine Maynard (Rob), Maureen Smith (Dave), Adrian and Lori Anne Burke (Jeff); his sisters, Janet Scallion (Wallace) and Margaret Ann Elliott; his grandchildren, Amy (James), Danny (Jami), Jenna (Mike), Carley (Ben) and Ashley (Chelsee); his great grandchildren, Eliza, Kate, Hazel and Lauren; his stepgrandsons, Derek Smith (Kelsie) and Alex Smith; and his siblings, Lorna, Francis, Brendan, Kevin, Gerald, Brian, Dennis and Mary. He was also cherished by eight children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Daniel's memory to Fr. Joseph E. Mills Scholarship fund at Stella Maris parish or Hope Cottage in Halifax.
