He was predeceased by: his wife Sharon Agnes Kirby (O'Neill). He is survived by: his brother James Kirby; his children, Don Kirby (Marsha) and Wanda Edwards (Ted); his grandchildren, Jonathan, Eric (Jenn), Marissa and Brittany; and his great grandchildren, William and Jensen.

He was a Covid 19 survivor and was involved in the Dalhousie research program to study the illness.
