He was predeceased by: his parents, George McGillivray and Helen McGillivray (Dowd); his daughter Marta; and his siblings, Kathleen, Ronald, Bernard, Helen, Carmel, Joseph, Eileen, Paul, Maurice and Gregory.

He is survived by: his wife Margaret Graham McGillivray; his son Maurice; his daughter-in-law Carol of Halifax; his children, Mark of Saint John, Mary of Antigonish, Maureen, Monica of Toronto and Michael of Saint John; his grandsons, Graham (Nicole) of Edmonton and Andrew of Shanghai; and his sister Claire McGowan of Saint John. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
