She was predeceased by: her parents, Ruby Herbert and Ernest Herbert. She is survived by: her husband Ismail; her children, Caroline (Barney Savage), Dina (David Wills), Jane (Patrick McGlynn), Samira (Eric Taylor) and Omar; her grandchildren, Anna, Margaret, Matthew, Simon, Conor, Liam, Lucas and Lindsay; her sister Sonia; and her sibling's children, Elizabeth and Nick.

During the Asian flu pandemic of 1957, Greta was assigned to nurse a young medical student named Ismail Zayid who had been hospitalized shortly before his exams.
