He was predeceased by: his parents, Cameron and Mary (Winnie); and his parents-in-law, Patrick, Clare and Stephen Shea.

He is survived by: his wife Cathy; his daughters, Jennifer Smith-Matheson (Yon), Heather Gillis (Ian) and Kaitlyn Matheson (Tom); his grandchildren, Cameron, Leila and Nova; his siblings, Jean Munro (Calvin) and Donnie Matheson; his nephews, James and Blair; and his friends, Cape Breton and Tignish.
