John left this world on October 3, 2025 at the age of 89, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Mills Smith and Faye Lydia Buchanan; his former wife Hilda; and his sister Eva Hanson (late Ray). He is survived by: his wife Helen Isnor; his children, Dr. Richard Isnor (Charlotte), Sid Isnor (Erika), Beth King (Jeff) and Karen Joy Isnor; his grandchildren, Sydney, Kaiden, Eveline Isnor, Ryan and Kristine King; and his sisters, Iva O'Donnell (late Dan) of Doaktown, NB and Col. Mona Stanley. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Snow's Funeral Home (339 Lacewood Dr, Halifax, NS B3S0E1). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 8th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Salvation Army Halifax West Community Church (50 Gesner St, Halifax, NS B3N2Y3).
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in Edwin's memory may be made to the Junior Band Fund at Halifax West Salvation Army, or simply by taking a friend for coffee or performing a kindness for someone in need, honoring Edwin's legacy of generosity and compassion.
