He is survived by: his wife Deborah Lyn Merrick (Craig); his children, Annaka of Boston, Christopher (Kate) of Ottawa and Evan (Katie) of Halifax; the mother of his children Mary; his grandchildren, Liam, Sophie, Beau and Luke; his nephew Robin Hamilton (Kerry) of Hudson, Quebec.; and his caregivers, Felicia Funke and Maria Konadu.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Parkinson Canada and the Animal Rescue Coalitions of Nova Scotia.
