He was predeceased by: his parents, Dan Gillis and Catherine Gillis (MacLellan); his daughter Darlene Gillis; and his siblings, Alex and Mary Gillis.

He is survived by: his wife Janette (Campbell); his daughters, Cheryl Kimber (Darrin), Carla Gillis (Paul) and Lynette Gillis (Graham); his sister Kaye Elliott; and his grandchildren, Danny (Stéphanie), Jessica, Deanna, Dylan and Braden. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be a private family service and interment at a later date in Mabou.
