Lillian Catherine Kennedy Obituary
Lillian Catherine Kennedy, age 94, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family Sunday night, June 15th at 23:52.
Lillian worked for many years at the Halifax School Board as an accountant and travelled the world with her friends Jean and Hazel. Whenever they had vacation time, they were gone somewhere.
Upon retirement, Lillian travelled the roads with her niece Donna to all her craft show endeavours and being an accountant, always took care of any money that was made. Lillian was a lover of Neptune Theatre and attended a full season every year when she was able. Lillian's favorite time of the year was Christmas, and she loved to cook Christmas dinner. Her brown sugar sauce for the plum pudding was always a particular hit. She really enjoyed all the holidays throughout the year.
Lillian had a love for dogs, but only had one of her own, Molly Kennedy, who was so dear to her heart.
Lillian never missed a concert that her niece Donna was in, whether it was the Chebucto Singers, the Handbell Choir of St. John's, or the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. In recent years we teased Lillian about her annual Tattoo date with Cecil Jackson, which they both enjoyed. Lillian was on the initial committee that started the Jubilate Singers and Friends annual concert to raise money for Christmas Food Boxes, started at St. Mark's Anglican Church in Halifax in 1989. Lillian was front row centre for the December 2023 concert, the last she was able to attend.
Lillian was predeceased by her parents, James and Bessie Kennedy, sisters Blanche Kennedy and Geraldine Ruggles, and brother-in-law, Donald Ruggles.
Lillian is survived by her niece and best friend Donna Ruggles, by her "adopted" niece Patti MacKenzie, and by her chosen family that we call her village.
Lillian, with the help of her massive village, was able to remain at home and attend special times up until April of this year and was at home until the morning of Friday, June 13th, 2025.
Donations can be made to the SPCA, St. John's United Church, or St. Mark's Food Box committee (c/o St. Mark's Anglican Church).
Visitation will be held Friday, July 4th from 6-8 PM at Cruikshank's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 5th at 11:00 AM at St. John's United Church, 6025 Stanley Street, Halifax.
When Tomorrow Starts Without Me.
When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, that an angel came and called my name, and took me by the hand; The angel said my place was ready, in Heaven far above, and that I'd have to leave behind all those I dearly love. But when i walked through Heaven's Gates, I felt so much at home, for God looked down, smiled at me, and told me "Welcome Home.". So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart, for every time you think of me, I'm right there in your heart.
