He is survived by: his former wife Lemin Li (Halifax); his stepson Mike of Mai, BC; his siblings, Colleen (David Arnold) and Paul (BC); his nieces and nephews, Cynthia Arnold-Jobes, Regan McGinnis (BC), Kyle Arnold and Aaron McGinnis (BC); his great-niece Lily Jobes; and his great-nephews, CJ Jobes and Benjamin Arnold.

His recent deployments included COVID testing at the St. Stephens, NB/USA border and serving at Nova Scotia's long-term care facilities and vaccination clinics. A co-worker at the Red Cross described Michael as "a kind soul whose calm demeanor and gentle approach helped put beneficiaries, long-term care residents and people about to get their COVID needle at ease".

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cancer Society and Red Cross.
