He was predeceased by: his parents, Stanley Crewe and Sarah Crewe (Caines); his siblings, Lewis and Elsie Giles; his son Donald; and his great grandchild Natalie Ernst.

He is survived by: his significant other Amelia "Mellie" (Taylor); his daughter Linda Melanson (Jack) of Middle Sackville; his grandchildren, Christopher Melanson of Halifax and Sheila Melanson-Ernst of New Ross; and his great grandchildren, Timothy Ernst and Wesley Melanson. He is also survived by 14 God children.

Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Norman to St. Mark's Anglican Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
