He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas "Tom" Spence and Carrie Spence (Mapplebeck); and his siblings, Tom, Merle, Bert and Ellen Louise.

He is survived by: his wife Pat (Palmer); and his son Steaphan "Steve" (Nadine). He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
