She was predeceased by: her parent Author Smith; her husbands, Jackie Handspiker and Darrel Cook; her sons, Bruce Handspiker and James Handspiker; her brothers, James Smith, Alfred Smith, Allan Smith and Douglas Smith; and her siblings-in-law, David Handspiker, Vicky Bates, Adelia Smith and Janet Donavan.

She is survived by: her friends, Shelly, Lisa, Connie, Kathy, Junior, Anne, Betty Thomas and Roberta; her children, Kenny Handspiker (Sherry) of Digby, Belinda Handspiker (Paul Jonah) of Halifax and Keith Handspiker of Digby; her daughter-in-law Cindy Handspiker of Winnipeg; her sisters, Velma Franz of New York, Margaret Fraser of Halifax and Dorothy Topple of Halifax; and her grandchildren, Gavin, Josh, Evan, Dayna, Amber and Travis. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
