He was predeceased by : his father John Johnstone; his sister Rosie Johnstone; his former life partner Sheila Johnstone (Collins); his nephew Christopher Williams; and his great-niece Emma Witter.

He is survived by : his mother Jean Bond (Johnstone) of Kentville; his son Ronald Johnstone (Natalie); his granddaughter Emily of Canaan; his siblings, Leta Williams (Ronald) of Centerville, Darlene McInnis (John) of Grand Pre, Michelle Adams (Grant Metham) of Enfield, Jimmy Johnstone (Muriel) of Waterville, Paul Johnstone of Aylesford, John Johnstone (Debbie Veinotte) of Waterville, Daniel Johnstone (Tanya) of Meadowview and Sam Johnstone of New Minas; his stepfather Everett Bond of Kentville; his stepdaughters, Marie Brewster (Draper Scott), Marley Brewster (Nathan Pulsifer), Melissa Capp (Wylie) and Marilee Johnstone (Ryan Barkhouse); and his stepgrandson Alex of Kentville. He is also survived by several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
