He was predeceased by : his parents, Thomas Mahar and Jessie Mahar (Mapplebeck); his stepmother Catherine Mahar (Caldwell); and his siblings, Beatrice Stockman, Clara Penny, Helen Darby, Katherine Baxter, Charles and Shirly.

He is survived by : his wife Dorothy (Benjamin); his children, Patsy Rogers (Donald) of Kentville, Laverne Mahar (South Alton), Cindy Mahar (Kentville), Margaret Lenihan (David) of Kentville, Ronald (Kentville), Ted (Prospect Road) and Rick of Cambridge; his siblings, Anna Huntley of Berwick, Harriet Oulton of New Brunswick, Mary Kalkman (Hal Walsh) and Thomas of Halifax; and his close friend Charlie Doucette of Waterville. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
