He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Gates and Madalyn Gates (MacGowan); and his brother-in-law Bruce Cohoon. He is survived by: his wife Ann (Blue); his son Jarred Gates (Sara Younes); his granddaughter Madalyn "Maddy"; his sister Judy Lee Cohoon (Gates); his nephew Christopher Cohoon (Danielle Bezaire); and his great-nephew Avon.
