He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Newell and Permilla Newell (Anderson); his brothers, Ralph and Phillip; his nephew David; and his great-nephew Nicholas.

He is survived by: his wife Bessie; his children, Heidi, Michael and Brent; and his grandchildren, Lisa, Rebekah, Riley, Madison, Chelsea and Alex. He is also survived by 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
