Mitchem Albert Hirtle Obituary
Mitch passed away January 1, 2023, at Harbourview Haven, Lunenburg. Born in Bridgewater on March 15, 1950, he was the son of the late Stephen Francis and Elsie Marion (Judge) Hirtle.
Except for a brief time in Alberta, Mitch lived in Lunenburg County, working in and on the water as a commercial diver and second engineer on a scallop dragger. He then established a painting and woodworking business which kept him busy until he retired.
Mitch was an avid outdoorsman and he spent many hours in the woods and on the water. He had a passion for fly-fishing for trout and salmon that took him to many lakes and rivers in Nova scotia and Newfoundland. Even in winter he could be found fishing for smelts when the LaHave River froze over.
Mitch will be remembered for his humour, generosity, and his love of music (especially Van Morrison and John Prine). He loved all animals but his dogs were his favourites.
Mitch is survived by his son, Anthony Feader (Kris, nee Douglas), sister Gail and brother-in-law Roy Bridge, Port Alberni, and step-son Ben Jeddrie, Halifax.
He was predeceased by his brother, Richard.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral by request. Internment will take place at a later date. .Donations made be made to Integrity's Haven Equine (Animal) Rescue Centre, Chester Basin, SHAID Tree Animal Shelter, Whynot's Settlement, or the Riverport Volunteer Fire Department of which Mitch was a member for over 20 years.
