He was predeceased by : his parents, Finlay Rankin and Margaret Rankin (Beaton); his siblings, AJ, Marcy, Anita, Sandra and Sally Beaton; and his cousins, Pat and Kevin Beaton.

He is survived by : his aunts, Sally Beaton and Sally Rankin; his uncle Johnny; his son Mabou Ridge; his wife Mary Catherine (MacDonald); his children, John Francis (Donna), Arnold (Marlene), Lawrence, Marie (Fraser), Andrea (Billy) and Brenda; his grandchildren, Hilary (Marcus), Craig (Katherine), Calley (BJ), Victoria, Ella, Kenneth, Huntley, Seamus, John, Siobhan and Grace; his great grandchildren, Emerson, Brylee, Kameryn, Finlay and Gracie; and his niece Sally "Central'.
