He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Johnstone and Lola Johnstone (Morris); his siblings-in-law, Barrie Stewart and Janet (Ned Taylor); and his nephew Kevin Stewart.

He is survived by: his wife Marion; his children, Carolyn Mason (Bill), Lori MacDougall (Joey) and Kirk Johnstone; his sister Lois Stewart; his grandchildren, Layton Mason (Melissa Logan), Morgan Hale (Zac), Allister Mason (Clara Lownie) and Kayla MacDougall (Alex Katkic); his sister-in-law Nora Jean Jardine (Paul); and his sibling's children, Colin Stewart (Jennifer), Scott Taylor and Shannon Higham (Reg).
