He was predeceased by: his parents, John Kowalski and Lillian Kowalski (Johnson); his former wife Margaret Ann (Partington); his son Michael Joseph; and his brother Chuck.

He is survived by: his wife Elaine (Smith); his sons, Doug of Brampton, ON, Eddy of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and Tony of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan; his grandchildren, Taylor Ann and Jamie; his stepgrandchildren, Haley, Bauer and Layne; his siblings, Jim (Judy) and Linda Pellerine; and his siblings-in-law, Faye Kowalski, Phyllis Dickson and Steven Dickson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
