He was predeceased by: his parents, Ellsworth Tanner and Irene Tanner (Tobin); and his brothers, John and Stephen. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Tanner (Day); his daughter Barbara Tanner; his grandson Jeremy; his son Vincent Tanner (Sarah); his grandsons, Clifford and Malcolm; and his siblings, Barbara Sayers (James) and Raymond Tanner (Teresa). He is also survived by nieces and nephews, the Day family, his close friends and neighbors.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Cape Breton in his name.
