He was predeceased by : his parents, Hector Carmichael and Lillian Carmichael; his stepfather Archie Carmichael; his brother Chesley Skeard; his brothers-in-law, Gordon Dickey, Raymond Salter, Ken MacIlheron, Henry MacLeod, Dougald MacDonald, Bill and Stephen Lamb; his sisters, Norma MacLeod and Kay Carmichael; and his sister-in-law Caroline (Dan Fleet).

He is survived by : his wife Erma (Lamb); his children, Dr. Stephen Carmichael (Paula), Jackie MacDougall (Steven) and Tanya Townsend (Russell); his grandchildren, Andrew MacDougall (Steph), Matthew MacDougall (Arianna), Natalie MacDougall, William, Katie, Ian, Lindsay Carmichael, Jack and Sam Townsend; his great grandchildren, Atticus, Kiera, Alex, Ash and Mikayla; his sister Mary MacDonald (late Dougald); and his siblings-in-law, Shirley Dickey (late Gordon), Bonnie Salter (late Raymond), Martha Thibeault (late Henry), Kathleen MacIlheron (late Ken), Naomi Lamb (late Allan), Rodney Lamb (Doreen) and David Lamb (Susie). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
