He was predeceased by: his parents, Reginald MacKinnon and Amelia MacKinnon (Gordon); and his brother William. He is survived by: his wife Marilyn (Andrews); his children, Ed MacKinnon (Shauna) of Howie Center and Beth Duffy (Sheldon) of Fort MacMurray; his grandchildren, Mason MacKinnon, Dalyce MacKinnon (David MacNeil), Sarah Duffy (Justin Greening) and Hannah Duffy; and his sister Sue Currie.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 13th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the W. J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel (107 Pleasant St, North Sydney, NS B2A1L9).
