He was predeceased by: his parent George Smith of Sydney Mines; his sister-in-law Carole LeBlanc; and his parents-in-law, Ethel Chislett and Herbert Chislett. He is survived by: his parent Pearl Smith (Rogers) of Sydney Mines; and his wife Judith. He is also survived by his children and their families, Amy (Jean Whalen) of Dartmouth, George (Daniel Roach, Kris Boutilier) of Marion Bridge, and Herbie (Máire Neville) of Sydney River, Denise Arsenault and Dorianne Mullin (mothers of his grandchildren), along with his brothers, Jackie (Betty), Victor (Charmaine), Peter (Patsy), and Tony, beloved nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
