He was predeceased by : his parents, Donald Whalen and Bertilla Whalen (MacDonald). He is survived by : his wife Sylvia Whalen (Sampson); his daughter Kayla Lynch (Whalen); his son-in-law Sean Lynch; his grandson Oliver Lynch; his siblings, Joe Whalen, Michael Whalen and Darlyne Whalen; and his nephews, Jason Power, Aaron Power, Troi Whalen, Devin Whalen and Kirk Whalen.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Diabetes Canada.
