He was predeceased by: his parents, Stephen Joseph Couban and Lillias Margaret Couban; his brother Robert Stephen; his mother-in-law Stella Ponga; and his son-in-law James David Matthews.

He is survived by: his wife Paraskevi Couban (Vivi); his child Stella; his son-in-law Bruce Mellon; his grandchildren, Josey and Axl; his sister-in-law Jean Couban; and his sibling's children, Rebecca, Rachel, Bridget and Jonathan.
