He was predeceased by: his parents, William "Twiggy" MacDonald and Hannah MacDonald (Neilson); his former wife Marjorie Haggarty; and his siblings, Annie Ellis (Douglas), Florence Corbett (Ernest), Kay MacLeod (Claude), Archie MacDonald (Audrey), Desmond "Naz" MacDonald (Helen), Jeannie Crowe (Herb) and Dougal MacDonald (Jacqueline).

He is survived by: his wife Faye MacDonald; his sons, Michael (Karen) of Middle Sackville, NS, Patrick (Joyce) of Waverley, NS and Shaun (Tracy) of Bathurst, NB; his stepchildren, Allan MacEachern (Lisa) and Tanya Smith (Michael) of Tatamagouche, NS; his grandchildren, Lauryn, Taylor, Eric (Anna), Jason, Benjamin and Cassidy; his stepgrandchildren, Lauren, Ashley (Brett), Tristan, Taylor (Chelsea) and Emily; and his sister Dorothy Chambers (Joseph). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
