He was predeceased by: his parent Dan; and his siblings, Norman, Edward and Beulah. He is survived by: his parent Ida (Fraser); his wife Jean (Hood); his children, Glenda MacLeod (John Basker), Bradford Mills (Kelly), Stellarton Mills, Randy Mills (Vanessa) and MacPherson Mills; his grandchildren, Andrew MacLeod, Tracey MacLeod, Cain Munroe, Trevor Munroe (Keneen), Bradford MacLeod, Moriah MacLeod, Eric MacLeod, Lauren MacLeod, Matthew MacLeod, Josie MacLeod and Morgan MacLeod; his siblings, Fraser MacLeod (Lorraine) and Janet Pauley of Pugwash; Stellarton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Donations in memory of Alex may be made to the VON, Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital, or to a charity of one's choice.
