He is survived by : his wife Jennifer (Stewart); his daughter Carrie McLaughlin (Bob); his grandchildren, Paige, Madison, Taylor, Payton and Jake; his son Andrew Penney (Lindsay); his grandchild Sailyr; his daughter Sarah MacInnis (Kass); his grandchildren, Rilie, John, Jack and Raya; his daughter Katie Swan (Tyler); his grandchildren, Evan, Gracie and Will; his brother Jason Penney (Bernadette); and his nephew Jack. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Donations in memory of Alex may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care or the Canadian Cancer Society.
