He was predeceased by: his brother Jeanetta Atwood (Nickerson); his grandparents, Leslie Arthur, Franny Atwood (O'Connell), Herbert and Zelda Nickerson (Smith); and his brothers, Orville and Leslie Herbert Atwood.

He is survived by: his wife Darlene Atwood; his son Douglas Townsend; his grandsons, Cole and Kasey Townsend; his parent Edward; his siblings, Bonnie Delmaire (Gilles) and Derick "Hoss" Atwood (Carrie); his siblings' children, Rachel Kendrick, Alicia Muise, Ryan Atwood, Brandon Madden and Wade Atwood; his pet Princess; and his close friends, Joe Ricard, Marsha Thomas, Carol Davis, Patricia Boydston and Marci Rodriguez.
