He was predeceased by: his mothers, Alison Russell and Bessie Russell (Mugford); his wife Shirley; his sister Margie; his brother-in-law Gordon Johnston; and his brother Ross.

He is survived by: his daughters, Jeanne Russell, Margaret Anne Russell and Sharon Putt (Jim); his grandchildren, Cherie McVicar, Holley Redmond (Jay) and Ryan Putt; his sister Doreen MacKinnon (Fraser); and his sister-in-law Jean Holley. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Philae Shriner's Hospital or a charity of one's choice.
