He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Kunicki Sr. and Sophie Kunicki; his wife Lesley; his close friend Jean Doucette; and his siblings, Rose Tweel (David Tweel) and Leonard Kuniski.

He is survived by: his sister-in-law Helen Kuniski; his sons, Kevin (Vicki) and Robin (Laura); and his granddaughter Ashleigh (Andrew). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Cape Breton SPCA would be appreciated.
