He was predeceased by: his parent Vean Mahar; his brother Roger; and his brother-in-law Carl Tracy Jr.. He is survived by: his parent Hazel Mahar (Cooke); his wife Shirley (Clyke); his children, Terri Mahar of Truro and Timmy of Truro; his stepchildren, Thomas Strange (Tracy) of Lower Sackville and Shirley Dawn Duck (Michael) of Halifax; his siblings, Bob (Betty) of Penticton, David (Eliza) of Blacks Harbour, Allen (Glenna) of Pennfield, Randy of Burnaby, Dawn Justason (Cal) of Pennfield, Norma Belliveau (Gerald) of Pennfield, Dorothy Barry (Michael) of Pennfield, Lucy Tracy of Lake Utopia, Janice Justason (Ralph) of Seeley and Beth Mahar of Blacks Harbour; and also Brendel. He is also survived by five grandchildren; 17 nieces and nephews, 14 great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers and honoring Howard's memory, donations to the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Canada, New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, Charlotte County Cancer Society or the S.P.C.A. would be appreciated by the family.
