He was predeceased by : his parents, Peter Johnstone and Beatrice Johnstone (Garneau); and his siblings, Brenda Emilio, Cameal Carlyle, Wanda Morris, Theresa Butler, Caroline Atwater, Pennual "Penny" Duggan, Ida Quesnel, Peter "Sonny" Johnstone and Norman Johnstone.

He is survived by : his daughter Cherity; and his siblings, Jane Bond, Beatrice Weaver and Fraser Johnstone (Leslie).
