He was predeceased by: his parents, Archibald Canning and Mary Canning (Rankin); and his siblings, George, Bob, Hazel, Gordon, Chet, Gene and Mary.

He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Canning (Chisholm); his children, Ruthie, Chet and David; his grandson David Allan; his children-in-law, Debbie and John; his children, Jack (Pamela), Russell, Clayton (Donna), Donald (Susan), Cathy Van, Eyden and Mary Jane Marcott (Louis); his daughter-in-law Charlene Canning; his sister-in-law Mary Lays; and his grandchildren, Rob, Jason, Vanessa, Stephanie, Michael, Jen, Jacob, Randy, Chris, Kati and Christie. He is also survived by thirteen great- grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
