He was predeceased by: his parents, Katie Flora (MacRitchie) and Dan Frank Matheson; his wife Anne MacMillan; his son James Peter Matheson; his siblings, MayBelle Matheson, Christine Cameron (Norman), Jonena MacLeod (Douglas), Harriet Morrison (Andrew), Jamie Ross (Donald), Leonard Matheson and Mary Asaph (Wilfred); his in-laws, Allan and Albin MacMillan; and his brother-in-law Peter MacMillan.
He is survived by: his children, Allan Matheson (Phyllis) of Aberdeen, Karen MacKinnon (Malcolm) of Cole Harbour, Judy Austen (Milford) of Antigonish, Connie MacAulay (Duart) of Aberdeen and Denise Beaton (Jeff) of Mabou Harbour; his friend Bruce (Dorothy MacLellan); his grandchildren, Allison Matheson, Shane Matheson (Carleen), Jody Arenburg (Josh), Isaac Matheson (Lindsay), Wade Matheson (Breann), Lana Halliburton (Chandler), Kyla MacKinnon-MacGillivary (Taylor), Devin Austen (Zoe), Cory Austen (Lindi), Bradley Austen (Jess), Breagh MacAulay (Alyson), Hilary MacAulay (Logan), Sawyer Beaton, Albin Beaton, Mason Beaton and Maeve Beaton; his great grandchildren, Ainsley (Slaven), Laird (Anna), Mairead Nichols (Matt), Mya Matheson, David, Murray, Anne Margaret, Mabel Arenburg, Rory, Harvey Matheson, Lachlan, Lilah Matheson, Randy, Shay Halliburton, Zaya, Nya MacKinnon-MacGillivary, Layla, Manton, Cora, James Austen, Violetta, Sierra Austen, Piper and Ellie Austen; his sister-in-law Verna MacMillan; and his caregivers, Donna, Jolie, Arlene, Carolyn, Ruth, Sharon and Michelle.
Visitation was held on Sunday, May 25th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Homes Chapel (W) (12 Main St, Whycocomagh, NS B0E3M0). A funeral service was held on Monday, May 26th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Little Narrows Presbyterian Church.
