Flora Sylvia Thurston Obituary

With sadness, we share the passing of Flora Sylvia Thurston (Yarmouth, Nova Scotia). Flora, born on January 11, 1939, passed away on July 2, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Lester Leroy Hird and Ellen Adelia Hird (Cahill); her siblings, Arthur, Alice Ogilvie and Kenneth Hird; and her siblings-in-law, Kay Hird, Marie Thurston, Budd Sanford, Richard Doucet, John Sturk and Roger Thurston.

She is survived by: her significant other Edward Harold Thurston; her children, Joelyn of Port Maitland, Roderick (Susan) of St. Anne de Kent, NB, Edwina of Sandford and Patricia of Halifax; her sisters, Betty Doucet of Lyons Brook, NS, Norma Sturk of North Alton, NS and Nancy Sanford of North Alton, NS; and her brother-in-law Malcolm Ogilvie of Kings County, NS. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Donations in Flora's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Gilles Boudreau and Friends Cancer Help Fund, or the Sandford Baptist Church.
