Lydia Parris Obituary

February 18th, 1956- January 3rd, 2021

Pickering, ON – January 3rd, 2021 – On this day our beloved Lydia Parris left this physical world and made her ascent back to the Heavenly Father.

Devoted wife to Brian and mother of three: André (Kayleigh), Matthew (Una) and Danielle (Kevin); grandmother of Aria and Rémy, and daughter of the late Marie Harbans. She is survived by her loving siblings Woody, Wilhelm, Willis, Wilcove, Wayne, Junior, Corrine, Elvis and the late Wendy. A dedicated sister-in-law and adoring aunt to her many nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Lydia was the definition of love. She had a warm and tender way of embracing those around her. She was a humanitarian and fountain of positivity, brightening lives with her infectious smile. Born in Trinidad & Tobago of Indigenous, Spanish and French Creole ancestry, Lydia was a true preserver of Caribbean culture. She was deeply rooted in Toronto’s Caribbean community through the arts and remained a prominent fixture at Caribbean carnival festivities in the city, since its inception.

Lydia started her professional life in Canada as a model, building a portfolio that would take her to runways in Paris, France. She moved on from modeling to hold prominent positions as a banking professional with Scotiabank for 39 years.

In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, Zumba classes, attending arts and culture festivities, cooking, volunteering in her community and spreading joy, when and wherever she could.
Most importantly, she was a woman of God who exemplified the teachings of Christ in her everyday life. She had a knack for brining people together, making them feel welcome and supporting loved ones in anyway.

She is survived by these same loving friends and family who she touched throughout her life’s journey and who will continue to live up to her spirit of enduring love and support through the ages.

May she Rest in Eternal Peace.
