Renate M Stinson Obituary

Stinson, Renate Margarete

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Nanny and Matriarch of our family. Renate Margarete Stinson, who passed away with her family right by her side on February 28th, 2020 at the age of 83 at the Almonte General Hospital, Almonte, Ont.

Our mom/nanny had an unwavering, unconditional love and deep devotion to and for her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. We were her life, her greatest love and the center of her entire universe. It showed in everything she did – and God forbid if you wronged or hurt any of us, because this small in stature lady, who was extremely strong willed and fearless could take you down with just a look or just the tone in her voice.

Her green thumb, passion for gardening, and love for flowers was a gift she shared with and was enjoyed by all those around her. Her flower garden was once nominated and won a placement in a beatification contest held by the town of Carleton Place when she lived there. Being in the deli and food industry for many decades she was also very passionate about creating and cooking good food, with taste being just as important as presentation – each dish looked beautiful. Every Christmas was made special with Christmas Eve being the main event of the holiday. She spared nothing to make it magical and special for everyone. She loved to read and dance and loved all music - especially the Blues.

Renate is survived by, and will be greatly missed forever by her 3 daughters: Sabine of Ottawa, Tammy (Ron) of Kingston and Melody of Perth, and her son Ralph (Narissa) in Thailand. Also, her heart and soul – her 10 grandchildren: Chrystel, Tony, Matthew, Emily, Bobby, Ashley, Katrina, Shawn, Michael and Alina, as well as her 12 great-grandchildren: Kaine, Faith, Chelsea, Logan, Sylver, Delilah, Yannah, Isabella, Amelia, Braiden, Olivia and Oliver.

She truly had a huge heart and loved everyone with her entire being. Renate is predeceased by her son Gordy and her parents Edith and Wolfgang and her sister Krystal. She will be greatly missed by her friend Jo and her loyal canine fur-baby Schatzi and her feline fur-baby Puma.

The family would also like to take this time to say a deeply grateful Thank you to all the wonderful staff in the Rosamond Wing at the Almonte General Hospital for their patience and kindness with and to our mom/nanny during her time there.

With a special thank you to those of you who went far and beyond and took time out to spend time with her, talk to her, get to know her, which allowed her to also get to know you. She so much loved and appreciated that. Our family is deeply grateful for everything and can’t thank you all enough for that.

Last but not least, a huge thank you to Melanie and Beans (the therapy dog). Mom truly enjoyed your visits, conversations, kindness and company and of course giving Beans a treat or two. It made a great deal of difference to her day.

As per our Mom’s wishes, a private gathering and celebration of life with family and a few close friends will be held at a later date this summer. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society of Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in memory of our mom.
